A responsible model for bio-waste management and circular economy

The Valencian holding NUOVA SESAC has taken a further step within its business model guided by social, economic and environmental sustainability, constituting SELEV BIOGROUP, a new group of companies specialized in bio-waste sustainability and circular economy, which as a whole have achieved a turnover of more than 128 million euros in 2019. In the words of the CEO, Miguel Cases Monterde, “with this new group we want to provide companies with a new way to demonstrate their environmental commitment and their CSR. We were convinced that both the union of our companies, as well as having a comprehensive vision of all activities, would allow us to create synergies between all of them and our clients to take advantage of all resources in a more efficient, responsible and sustainable way over time. ” Solutions for a sustainable life SELEV BIOGROUP offers comprehensive and advanced solutions for the regeneration of bio-waste. For example, the group companies manage globally the organic waste generated by the agri-food industry, in supermarkets, in the HORECA channel, and even in neighboring communities and in their own homes. Each one of these bio-residues is treated in our plants to give them a new value and convert them into raw materials for animal feed, renewable energy (UCO for biodiesel, biofuels or biomass), Biogas or products for agriculture (fertilizers). , among others. "This comprehensive vision allows us to promote a perfect industrial symbiosis between our own companies and our customers / suppliers to demonstrate that an industrial development that is respectful with the environment is possible and with the available natural resources it is possible," says Miguel Cases. Saving CO2 emissions into the atmosphere The activities of SELEV BIOGROUP contribute to reducing the carbon footprint that bio-waste could generate on the climate if not properly treated. "We avoided incinerating bio-waste, which would mean using twice as much energy, as well as burying it, which would mean expelling double the amount of methane, which is even 21 times more harmful than CO2," adds its CEO. Specifically, the current volume of operations of SELEV BIOGROUP allows a saving of emissions to the atmosphere of 320,000 tons of CO2 per year. "We estimate that in two years we can be talking about a figure close to 400,000 tons, since we are receiving a lot of interest from companies to implement our new bio-waste management and circular economy model," concludes Miguel Cases.
